poor quality control
I was walking by my boat trailer today and noticed one of my bearing dust covers was missing. So I purchased these believing they would be a great upgrade to stock non greasable covers. These work via a cup under spring pressure between two snaprings. As you pump grease into the hub caviity, the cup is pushed outward under pressure until it reaches a pressure release hole allowing the grease to escape. I get them home and the first thing I noticed was that they were not all internal stainless parts as indicated on the packaging. In fact I don't believe any of the parts are stainless. I got out my magnet and both the washer and nut that hold the grease zerk in were magnetic. Maybe they are just "cheap stainless" which is magnetic. However the internal snapring is definitely not stainless. See pics. After installing and filling and the grease not coming out the relief hole, and uninstalling several times I came to realize the cup walls were too high to allow the cup to reach the relief hole. The cup would bottom out on the external snap ring as it was being filled and would push the rear grease seals out of the back of the hub, as the grease had no where to go. Looking at the cups you could tell they were punched on a press out of a flat piece of tin. The cup walls were at uneven heights. I ended up machining the cup walls down a little so they were flat and could travel farther and allow the cups to get where they needed to go.
