Carquest Wearever Brake Shoe Set

05 Chevy 1500 Silverado 4WD. Do yourself a favor when replacing these shoes-disconnect the parking brake cable where it splits under the drivers door. Doing so makes this job much easier and that tip isn'tin the factory manual. Hook the cable onto the rear shoe(BTW it's nice that these shoes come with all new hardware) AFTER putting the gigantic hold down spring onto the backing plate-youll struggle otherwise.Get the rear shoe in position and held in with the humongous hold down spring, then put the front shoe in. Reinstall the adjuster, adjuster lever and then the adjuster lever spring. Not many parts due to the GINORMOUS spring holding the shoes in.

These brakes are terrible!!! DO NOT Buy These!!! I installed these on my 2007 Silverado last year, and will never, ever again. First of all, there were absolutely NO instructions included in the box (Which is actually typical of most manufacturers.) Secondly, While installing the emergency brake cable (which I worked on for over an hour), the piece in which the knob on the end of the E-Brake cable fits into bent! I had to put SO MUCH pressure to compress the spring in order to get the knob into place that the E-Brake bracket portion of the brake shoe actually bent open. I had to use pliers and bend it back. The tip provided by one of the previous commenters to disconnect the cable at the split under the door would have been SUCH a lifesaver!!! Anyway...now (after 11 months/~25K miles) I just inspected it again because it started squeaking after like ~20,000 miles. The drum was FULL of fine brown dust. These brakes seem to be wearing really quickly. I'm going back this week to provide the salesman some "feedback" on the product that he so confidently recommended, and then buy some Wagners!
