Carquest Standard Brake Pads: Semi-metallic, Reliable and Dependable Stopping - Front

The old rotors on my 2003 Accord have been vibrating for a couple of years. Vibration starts after about 5 seconds of reasonbly hard braking. The pads were supposedly replaced when I bought the car @44K miles .. there's 114K miles now, so the pads were likely worn out. I decided to buy new rotors & pads, and a 35% off coupon from Advanced Auto Parts at just the right time, so I ordered them. The Advanced Auto Parts search function was pretty straight forward, the only glitches being a) I couldn't tell if my car had caliper or drum brakes in the back because both were listed -- yeah, I could have gone outside and checked and b) Rotors come 1 per package but pads come 2 per package so I accidentally bought an extra set of pads. No problem. I installed them pretty easily, in about an hour, and took it for a test drive. It feels great and no vibes. Brakes engage higher and are more effective, so I'm bouncing people off the dash board until I get used to them. I've got an extra set of pads that I will put on at 140K, or on my wife's car if they match.

I was in a pinch and purchased these pads for my wife's CR-V. Out of the box they looked like quality pads. They made noise as soon as I drove the car. Not just the usual squeal you may expect until pads seat, but a grinding sound. After 1,000 miles they continued to squeal/grind. I changed to a ceramic pads, and all is well again. No noise, very little dust. Spend the extra bucks.
