Not sure why a manufacture would use plastic parts on moving objects, but if one has the choice they should pay the extra and go with the metal.

Looks good but ...
Passed the eye test buy just couldn't take the chance of installing a water pump on my VW that said made in China on the box. So i returned it. For such a important part for my car I need the best or close to it. And made in china doesn't give me peace of mind

Still plastic!
I have replaced one of these on my Jetta once already and yet again I find myself buying another one due to the exact same problem. On every single one of these water pumps (manufacturer aside) the propeller fan, the one that is submerged in HOT! coolant is made from plastic and after a short few year span degrades and melts away leaving nothing to push the coolant causing the vehicles to overheat and burn out the seals on the water pumps and then leak all over the place. Why is it so hard to put a metal propeller on these that cannot melt?
